Our proposal for the tender for the new complex of the office spaces of EYDAP’s services concerned a large-scale project on the EYDAP plot that would bring together all the company’s administration areas in one complex.
The plot of land that was given to house the 16 thousand square meters of EYDAP’s building is located in Galatsi, where there are already scattered building constructions and water tanks that supply the city. A key role in our final placement was played by reading the neighborhood area of the plot.
Currently on Oropou Street, where the main entrance to the facilities is located, a solid fence is being erected, blocking any communication and connection between them with the surrounding tissue. Therefore, restoring the building’s dialogue with the urban fabric was of primary importance to us.
At the same time, the reason for the final composition was the property of water to act as a filter.
So we used the existing urban fabric of the city as a synthetic tool, with the outlines of the building blocks being extrapolated to organize the functional units within the building.
We placed at the core of the composition the cylindrical volume that refers to a tank and on either side of which there are three orthonormal volumes that house office spaces.
For the worker, the proposed kinesiology helps him to appropriate the space like that of a building block.
And for the resident of the neighborhood, the permeability of the new structure allows an open conversation with his own environment.
Through the open nature of the design and the reservoir at its core, water is conceptually brought back into the public space as a public good.
