The architectural idea is the introduction of a linear system of atriums that run through all the functional units of the new uses and organize the movement, light and air inside the complex. Contrary to the perception of the building as a hermetically sealed box where mechanical systems take on the role of creating the indoor climate, we propose a method that is in a dynamic relationship with the environment by exchanging heat with the environment through the opening glass surfaces of atriums in two basic operating scenarios.
The same linear engravings continue in the open space as movement and planting zones following the axes of the buildings and organizing a secondary reading system of the space. The sub-sections of the building program are included in appropriate sections to enhance the linear character of the original buildings and we carefully and economically introduce new elements to mark either the entry points or the locations of damaged structural elements. The functional units are placed within independent parts of the evolutionary prosthetic logic of the complex which creates a movements along the long sides in order to intensify the intense linearity of the space. The unity of the whole complex is achieved through the open space without uniting the buildings with additional constructions that would alter the spatial autonomy of each building. The central triangular courtyard functions as the central pedestrian traffic area, as an informal center leading to all building units as well as the outdoor area on the Southwest Side of the building which has the use of the Cafe-Canteen of the site. Most of parts of a building that have fallen are reconstructed for the sake of restoring the architectural and structural unity. But some other parts are not reconstructed entirely, and instead new building structures within the preserved data. In this way the collapse part of the history of the monument is considered and create a compatible logic of redefining the architectural form with new methods compatible with the original prosthetic logic of industrial spaces.
